French Director Search

The Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy (MMLA) seeks a Director of its
French School to begin at three sites in the summer of 2008. A Director
may be hired for each of the three program sites for 2008, or may
administer more than one site.

MMLA offers a one-month foreign language immersion experience for
middle and high school students, in a summer-camp setting. We combine the
fun of summer camp with the opportunity to study with skilled faculty and
staff, so that students are immersed in the Arabic, Mandarin Chinese,
French or Spanish language.

The Director oversees all academic functions of the School, and directs
the implementation of the School curriculum and its cultural programs.
With the assistance of MMLA staff, the Director hires the School's
faculty, helps recruit students, administers the School's budget,
supervises students' progress during the session and provides advice and
support. As part of the contract, the Director attends one meeting during the
winter.

Applicants for this position should have native or near-native fluency
in the language; direct teaching experience with middle and/or high
school students; curriculum development or language program management
experience is preferred as is summer camp experience. Evidence of
leadership among peers, ability to relate well to students and the capacity to
adapt quickly to changing situations is required.

French Faculty
June 25-July 26, 2008

French Faculty for Summer Immersion Camp

The Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy (MMLA) offers four-week summer
immersion camp experiences for middle and high school students each
July. Located on college campuses at various US locations, we combine the
fun of summer camp with the opportunity to study with skilled faculty
and staff, so that students are immersed in the Arabic, Mandarin
Chinese, French or Spanish language.

Working with the French School Director and a carefully planned
curriculum, French faculty will be responsible for leadership of the formal
academic and informal social and recreational activities of the French
school. Classroom teaching is just part of the French School at MMLA.
During most of the day we are using French in the events and activity of
summer camp-sports, drama, games, music, field trips, arts and crafts,
etc.-and the French faculty provides leadership for all camp activity.

Students and faculty adopt a language pledge, modified as needed for
the age group and language level, so that a full-immersion French
environment is created. For the most part, faculty will be housed in the same
dormitories as students, or in nearby campus accommodation. Residential
staff-not faculty-are responsible for student life in the dormitories.

Applicants for this position should have native or near-native fluency
in the language; direct teaching experience with middle and/or high
school students; summer camp experience is preferred. Evidence of
leadership among peers, ability to relate well to students and the capacity to
adapt quickly to changing situations is required.

Accommodation for families may be possible; room charges for faculty
families may be covered by MMLA; meal plans for spouse and children will
be billed to the faculty person. Family members must use the target
language. Competitive salary and room and board.
