Why Learn Another Language?

In this VFLA advocacy film for language programs, learn Jake Burton Carpenter's secret for success in international business! According to Jake, founder and CEO of Burton Snowboards, a business leader must "be a good corporate citizen in every country, respecting customs and languages."  The film also gives valuable information about why knowing another language is an especially valuable skill in Vermont.  For example, did you know that we are the biggest per capita exporter in the US?  Why Learn Another Language?  also gives the cognitive, social, and academic advantages of language learning, but its economic arguments may be the most compelling for some parents.  And their kids will love the snowboarding pictures!

To find out how to order a $25 copy for yourself, your department or district, download the order form in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat Reader format. Contact Mike Martin (mike@cvuhs.org) with any questions.

In this scene from the film, Vermont students play "boules" or "pétanque".
